I decided to analyse Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal as it is a similar genre to Bumpin Bumpin and has similar ideas that we want to portray in our video. For example it has an almost hallucinogenic feel to it, with a range of changing colours. It has a similar repetitive beat as well.
The video begins with a zoom on a manipulated street that looks like it exists in an isolated world, it has a blueish hue which is the main colour seen throughout. It then cuts away to a close up of a spinning wheel, which is a prop that looks blue and cushiony which reflects the stereotype of a 'bonkers' patients room, which reflects on the theme of the song. We then cut to a wide shot of the entire cushiony truck driving along a manipulated street, which I think was created using a green screen. The video then cuts to a bedroom on the back of the truck that is made of a similar material this part is similar to one of ours as it has a sped up clock on his bedside table. It then pans in to the face of Dizzee Rascal, who is wearing pyjamas that are covered in blinking eyes, which adds to the hallucinogenic effect.
The video then quickly cuts to Dizzee Rascal doing different things around his 'room' like doing weights and dancing with a glittery snake toy and laying in bed lip-syncing. It then cuts to a very fast close up of his face and then to him sat watering a plastic plant with a fake water drop, this is the kind of comedic element I would like to incorporate into our video. It then quickly cuts around his room showing him in his pyjamas dancing and singing. It then again cuts away to Dizzee Rascal stood on the manipulated street that looks like a world, this is an above angle shot which emphasizes the 'bonkers' self importance the main character may feel. It then cuts to a close up of his face while the 'world' beneath his feet moves and changes while in goes from close ups to mid shots. It then cuts to a mid shot of the main character in the middle of a padded room, the colours change, which is similar to the kind of effects, we want, as it will add to the hallucinogenic feel.
The images are also cut in time with the beat along with his movements. When Bonkers is first mentioned it shows the main character jump in front of the image in a shark suit this creates a confused feeling for the audience, which is the basic aim of this entire video. It then pans out from the middle of a crowd of clubbing people which is an effective idea we thought we might use in our video, the clothing is all bright and outrageous like the kind of fashion we want to show throughout our video. It then cuts to a high angle shot of people partying in slow motion. The next cut shows all the colourful characters dancing in slow motion around the room. It then cuts between Dizzee Rascal dancing above a crowd and on the manipulated streets. The video is very fast paced and continuously cuts between the crowd in different manipulated streets and Dizzee Rascal alone on the streets.
For the slower part of the song it cuts to a white padded room being lit by strobe lights, there is a close up of the main characters hand, the camera zooms out to show the main character laying on the floor in an orange patients outfit; the strobe lights work along with the beat.It then cuts back to the manipulated streets and cuts between two, in one he has a hood up and in the other has the hood down. At the part of the song in which the beat is fastest it flashes between Dizzee Rascal dancing on the manipulated street and him in the shark costume. It is all very repetitive the same style of location is used repeatedly, which is stereotypical for this style of music. Throughout the video all cuts match up with the beat of the music, which is something, we have to think about while editing our video.
the genre of the video is hip-hop/rap, the audience can clearly see this through the use of extras in the club scenes and the use of editing with jarred repetitive cuts. The video has a disjuncture style narrative but the audience are capable of matching it to the song as it is about being insane so the images are not necessarily expected o match up. the performance aspect of this video is very simplistic it is just the main character dancing and lip-syncing on different streets that have been made to look like worlds. the video is mainly performance but it does have aspects of narrative.
