Trey songz– Can't be friends
I have analyzed the technical aspects of the music video ‘Trey Songz – Cant Be Friends’. The video consist of many close-up shots on his face, particularly his eyes to emphasis his emotions. This relates back to the viewers as they can see the narrative story from a clear point of view. At the beginning of the video, many medium shots are used to show his aggression and body language. The medium shots along with long shots, show the background is basic and stripped down to just a dull and black, which relates back to his loneliness and darkness. There are also a lot of fast cut towards the end of the video to show how distressed he is. This illiterates back to this, towards the end of the sequence, the camera becomes hand help to show his frustration and aggression. Juxtaposition is also used, as we see many fade in shots of Trey’s aggression against his happier times. We see him with his girlfriend as a medium shot to show their healthy, stable leveling relationship, however a fade in effect was used to compare his joyful moments to a more frustrated atmosphere.
This images shows his aggression towards his relationship. His dull clothing suggests his darkness. The wide shot is used to show his frustration but to also show the audience the stripped background. This connotes his emptiness and loneliness to his relationship. The video resembles him, reminiscing on his happier more times. The aggression from the beginning becomes progressively calmer throughout the video, connoting that his acceptance of their relationship is over.
