in what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products.

Researching Goodwins theory we followed his 6 main principles in order to develop a convincing real music video, the genre of our music video was pop/rap/hip-hop.

With Kreayshawn being an abstract artist we wanted to make our video as different and eye catching as possible, this has provided a fun themed ethic. Including lots of fast paced edits and multi-colored effects to the video, we get the impression the performer maintained an enjoyable hectic uplifting lifestyle. The title 'Bumpin Bumpin' gives away the atmosphere the music video is out to create ( elevating spirits, encouraging dancing and a restless lifestyle) and hopefully in toll with the video it accomplishes its aim - it certainly had us smiling with a nodding of the head.

Developing this genre was all about styling, attitude, location and editing in essence. With the perfect locations, for example a Graffiti wall- showing a snippet of Kreayshawns creative and artistic side or in the studio to convey that 'nightclub atmosphere' it defined our genre when combining it with the song. Styling helped also, without the right costumes we wouldn't have pulled of the genre-her style reflecting her crazy attitude. Styling each other before filming became a large part of preparation. Late night phone calls and texting to one another debating on outfits/makeup choices and colors. However small of a deal this may sound, the importance of providing that outrageous attitude was compulsory to match the song chosen 'Bumpin Bumpin'. We were prepared to go over the top to maintain the standard of Kreayshawn for example the big gold earings, bold lipsticks worn, the braces and the geek glasses, all expressing the nature of the song and artist.

We tried to match the visuals up to the music, amplyfying the lyrics for example: 'one big room full of bad b#tches' on numerous occasions in the video im surrounded by Kiera Molloy and Toni Mckinlay in the studio space and i glance over to them blatently or point to them distinctly. Another example would be the lyrics 'bumpin bumpin' these words jump purposely in the song, to intensify the lyrics we have engaged a jerking movement-these visuals hopefully enhancing the thought of 'bumppin'. Lastly another example which embraces the lyrics would be the slow motioned delicate movement of my hands at a point where the lrics recite ' elegant ele elegant', however ironic and contradictory this word is when included in such a quirky exhillarent song, it relates to the lyrics very well. The musics beat has a catchy base line and the way in which the visuals flowed well was very complimentory.

An artist who was an inspiration to the making of the video would be chris brown with his release of 'beautiful people', he includes a fun themed element throughout. When riding a scooter through the streets breaking the stereotype of a famous 'pompous' artist he creates an amusing entertaining video. Another element would be the fact he shares the limelight with his friends, just like we have included the faces of two other characters! The use of bright multi-coloured lights is also used in his video, for a club scene and although we used a studio to convey a nightclub, there is still simarlarities. His video is of a distinctive pop genre and i feel we have fullfilled distiunguishing our genre to the best of our ability. Through different shots of the performer, we are trying to excel her attitude but alsoto sell her as an artist.

Close ups and a direct gaze unto the camera realy enhanced the way in which the audience can gain an insight into the life of the performer- the interaction is of close proxemics and reflects a close bond unto her fans. The video is performance based and we have come across many struggles in order to pull of the sucsess of a real media product. Through following the genre we played it safe but we also decided to take risks by making it our own for example including two other characters whereas Kreayshawn is independant in her video. Club scenes were cloned however using studios, adding our own lighting we made it origional and abstract (kreayshawn used a real nightclub).

We are happy with our final product and through dedication preparation and hardwor, we believe we have produced a realistic music video.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback

Overall the audience response has been extremely positive and successful. They found that we have exceeded a high level of an excitable and enthusiastic music video.

They have distinguished the key genre of 'hip-pop/rap' instantly, due to a variety of aspects we used to show this. Firstly the contrasting colors yellow, pink, green emphasis the upbeat and funky side to the genre. The styling of make-up and costume which was seen as 'thinking outside the box' due to the gold and blue lipstick suggesting we have broke the sterotypical 'pop/rap video' to make it our own and more original. Another aspect of the video was shown through the attitude of the performer which was shown through the facial expression and the eye contact with the camera showing confidence and boldness, this was important as the audience was aimed at teenage girls and for our video to inspire the audience it is imperative that we show life. The technical side, which included the specific editing skills such as, jerked movements at suitable points along with reduced speed to create dramatic intentions on the audience. Also the multi-colored lighting used to emphasis the ‘pop’ theme.

We have discovered that the majority of the audience have commented on the same critical features. The minimal use of close-up shots was highlighted, as they thought it would feel more effective and more polished. Taking this on board we then took a risk shortly before the dead line to gain more of an effective and positive responce from the audience and feeding them what they wanted. In oder for us to do this, we used several shots of the 'lips' as an extreme close-up and black and white faded close-ups. This overall we thought was important for us to do as we also thought it would increase our grade by responding to the feedback. The audience also notified the lack of movement, so in order to do this we used hand held camera to suggest a rushed and upbeat effect to the audience. This also emphasised movement and related back to the background beat of the song.

The audience also found it to be original as one viewer who is not familiar with this genre describes it as ‘chav-like’ but yet very ‘enjoyable’ to watch. Additionally, we have also found a large audience base of teenage girls who related well to the attitude and style we portrayed in the video, we have videoed one girl ( Catrione Fitzgerald) on her thoughts and opinions. We thought that overall our video would be very inspiring towards the teenagers and we wanted them to relate to this. I personally think they can relate to it as we stayed close to home, we used art walls and worked in built up areas relating back to the artist herself as she was from the 'streets' and the audience can also see that the artists are no different to the audience.

how effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts.

Overall our video 'Bumpin Bumpin' is a very upbeat piece of music which consist of a huge amount of personality and originality invested into the video. The song is self written which shows it is personal to the artist. Taking that into account we wanted to make the video our own, however still keeping an unique edge from the inspired artist Kreyshawn. The photography for the cd cover took a great deal of planning as for the video itself. However it was essential to link our cd cover back to the video and show a clear relation of the music we are advertising and representing for marketing to the audience. We researched many cd covers for instance Mika, and Kreyshawn herself to get a view on how they have visualized their music graphically. We seen that to reflect their genre visually the majority of the covers consist of bright contracting colors. For instance, green and red, pink and back, blue and yellow.

Taking this on board it was important to use bright colors such as black and yellow. The front of the cover is reletivly large, bold and edgy reflecting the artists fierce and enthusiastic side. We have kept the theme of yellow throughout as we think it is a very eye grabbing color to the audience which leads to an important aspect to our marketing. We wanted to keep the font and the cover minimalistic. We thought it was suitable to use a black and white background for the built up area, realting it back to the artist Kreyshawn herself. It can relate back to her upbringing and background as she is from 'the streets'. The bright yellow is a major contrast with the black and white, showing her more happier times compared to the darkness from her yearier years.

'Bumpin Bumpin' is also featured in yellow as it was also a highlight of her life something she is proud and passionate about. The photography is also very stylized showing her self-hood and likeableness from the artist. The cover is very simple, featuring the main artists only at the cover. The bright colors represents her style. She is a very vibrant and upbeat person.

We also designed the back of the cover to also follow out the minimalistic theme. We decided to use the brighter colour of yellow with a turquoise as they clash. Alot of Kreyshawns' fashion would be see as clashing so it was essential for us to convey the artist in a visual way for the audeince and the marketing. The image of the artist we have used a sketched, faded out white, to take away the brightness and to tone it down. Using a large range of colors without toning it downe draws away the personailty and individuality of the cd cover.

The advert we created is again very primary, however we have took away the majoirty of the animatied aspects of the leaflet to make it more professional. The imageary is clear and naturalistic which makes it easier for the audience to remember the artist. We have also used key fun factor feautures such as, the background as an arcade. This connotes her convivial and pricessles qualities that were important to convey in the poster. We have kept the yellow edgy font which represents the name of the album. It was imperative for us to use this to resemble the artist and her cd. It helps to market the cd to become exitance to the audience and rememberable.

Additionally, all three; video, cd cover and advert are very significant to marketing as they need to compliment each other to be successful. Throughout the same theme and stylized manner has been used in each aspect. Contracting colors to inflict singularity and quirkiness. We also included repetition with the lips in the video to emphasis the lyrics. The lyrics within itself was also echod through the useage of 'Bumpin Bumpin' and reappearance within the fonts. The cover helped us to visualise the artist in an imaginative way. By creating colors and fonts to show her up-lifting attitude. The planning we have done and analyzing enables a clear aspect for us to successfully market it overall to the audience.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

We first used media technologies when we were researching what genre we wanted to pursue so we researched many different genres to discover how they differentiated from one another. During our research we watched a lot of current videos that were in the genre that we wanted to create. We also researched album covers and magazine adverts we did this with Google which allowed us to find a more extensive range, thanks to this research we were able to create a unique idea that had the professional qualities that would be needed for real digipaks and magazine adverts.

When researching into the music video we used popular websites such as YouTube, these enabled us to look at thousands of videos in different genres to get an idea of how certain genres appeal to there target audiences. After deciding which song we wanted to use YouTube provided us with the ability to look at other videos in the same genre and by the same artist. We were able to look at the style that is expected of a Kreayshawns music videos as well as general r‘n’b videos.

When planning each task we were required to do, we posted our ideas onto our blog and then added more posts as our ideas developed. For example when creating the CD we had several different ideas that helped us move on to our final piece. Also when planning the music video we used Google maps to find suitable locations that would look the most effective in our genre of music video.

The construction of each of that tasks was probably the most difficult part of the project. Most of the video was created using a camcorder and a tripod, as we felt this would be most suited for the video we wanted to create. We also used the studio equipment in order to create our performance shots, we had much more ideas for the studio but most of them we were unable to get round to. In the studio we used the professional cameras and lighting as well as some filters. We were also able to use the mixing desk to have a range of shots for different parts of the video.

To edit the footage we had shot we used the program ‘final cut pro’ and we also did some editing on ‘motion’ We had hours of footage to choose from and decided which were best for certain parts was a very time consuming task, the clips were cut down using a razor took which allowed us to precisely cut them for the gaps we wanted them to fill. After we chose each clip and decided where it would go we had to make sure the lips were synced correctly which was very difficult because you couldn’t be out by a second. Once we had composed the rough timeline we were able to add effects. For the close up of the lips we changed the hue and brightness to make it look more like a stereotypical r’n’b video. We also edited the brightness and contrast on several different shots when the colours didn’t quite fit in. We then used motion to make the studio clips look more professional. We were able to add spotlights and change the colours of them, we also made the colours change throughout clips as it made them look more effective, the reason we had to add spotlights was because the background of the shots appears quite gray and we wanted it to look better.

When constructing the CD panels we used a digital still camera to take images of the main star and some background images. We then used ‘Adobe Photoshop’ as this would allow us to edit the images effectively. We first had to crop the images to the size of 12cm by 12cm, next the saturation and brightness of some of the panels was slightly altered to make the image brighter. Photoshop allowed us to insert text into the image, the text was changed to a suitable font and the colour was also changed so it would fit in with the house style of the group. We also used a digital stills camera and Photoshop when creating/editing the music advertisement. Within Photoshop this time creating the advertisement was a lot more complex, using many of the tools within Photoshop such as the 'lasso' tool and the 'feathering' tool, we had to crop many selected areas of different photos and blend them all into one we also used a lot of different filters. After doing this text was then added to advertisement; including logos and a web-link.

We also used technology in the evaluation stage as we did some audience research on Facebook and YouTube. We also used a camcorder and tripod to record interviews of audience members that had watched our video.

A media technology, which allowed us to focus on the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages, was the use of the blog. Through most stages we were able to write and upload screenshots, providing a detailed diary account of what we had done in and out of lesson and provided evidence to show how we created each aspect.

Without the use of such variety of technology our project would have been much less successful as they played a large role in every aspect of the project.

Notes from Kreayshawn

The reason in which we decided to show notes to Kreayshawns fans is because we are interpretting her character, she has a close bond with her audience and she is very open with them therefore they relate to her and apreciate her as a person. Kreayshawn is a down to earth women, very open minded and real - we wanted to express this by reflecting her connection with her fans. The relationship is just like a friendship, she will never forget where she was raised or the person she is due to fame and this is one of the many possitive qualities she inflicts as an artist. An inspiration to many, she may not prorities with the right values however she remains true to herself and to her fellow fan base who she proclaims are her distant family.
